GPT-6 doesn’t just answer in paragraphs any more. Since 7 October 2026, ChatGPT can reply with things you can use: a working calculator, an interactive diagram, an editable map, a quiz that keeps score. The catch is that ChatGPT decides when to go interactive — unless you prompt it the right way. These 10 copy-paste prompts trigger each of Intelligent UI’s best surfaces, and every one ends with a one-line check, because a generated tool you don’t verify is just a prettier guess.
What is GPT-6’s Intelligent UI?
Intelligent UI is OpenAI’s name for answers that arrive as interactive interfaces instead of plain text. OpenAI began rolling out GPT-6 in ChatGPT on 7 October 2026 — paid tiers first, then Free and Go from 8 October — and responses can now include graphics, tappable buttons, forms, charts and small built-on-the-fly tools (gHacks, 8 Oct 2026). Paid tiers get GPT-6 Sol; Free and Go get GPT-6 Luna.
The catch: the format is the model’s decision, not a toggle. GPT-6 is trained to “compose responses using text, visuals and interactive elements, choosing how they fit together based on your question” (OpenAI, via mixed-news, 10 Oct 2026) — but you can ask for a tool explicitly, which is what the prompts below do. Our full Intelligent UI guide covers the rollout; this is the hands-on companion.
How to write a prompt that triggers the interactive version
Vague asks get text answers; specific asks get interfaces. The pattern that works, documented by the team at aireiter.com (8 Oct 2026), has four parts: name the decision, list the editable inputs, fix the facts it must not invent, and state how you’ll accept the result. “Make this interactive” leaves too much implicit — the model has to guess what controls you want. Each prompt below follows that anatomy, so you can paste it as-is and get a usable tool rather than a description of one.
The 10 prompts
Grouped by job: money, learning, planning, and decisions. Each prompt is followed by the surface it triggers and the one check that keeps it honest.
1. The retirement savings calculator
Build me a retirement savings calculator with sliders for monthly contribution, expected annual return, and years until retirement. Show the projected total as a big number plus a year-by-year growth chart. Start with $500/month, 7% return, 30 years.
What it builds: an adjustable calculator with a growth chart.
Check it: move one slider and confirm the total moves the right way — then verify one scenario against any standard compound-interest calculator.
2. The dinner bill splitter
Split this dinner bill interactively: $184.50 total, 4 people, 18% tip. One person only had a $22 salad and a soda. Give me a slider for the tip percentage and let me reassign items between people.
What it builds: a bill splitter with per-person shares that update live.
Check it: the four shares must add up to the bill plus tip, to the cent.
3. The laptop comparison you control
Compare these three laptops using ONLY the specs I paste below. Build a sortable table with columns for price, weight, and battery life. Label anything I didn’t provide as “unknown” — do not guess or fill it in. [paste your specs]
What it builds: a sortable side-by-side comparison table.
Check it: every number traces back to your pasted specs; nothing was invented.
4. The explorable bicycle diagram
Explain how a seven-speed bicycle works with an interactive diagram. Make the drivetrain, brakes, wheels, frame, and cockpit each tappable, with a one-sentence explanation per part, plus a plain-text parts list underneath.
What it builds: an annotated diagram with tappable regions — one of OpenAI’s own demo examples.
Check it: tap every region and confirm each label matches its explanation.
5. The road-trip map you can edit
Plan a 3-day drive from San Francisco to Los Angeles. Show an interactive map with suggested stops. Let me add or remove stops and update the total driving time and fuel cost each time.
What it builds: an adjustable route map with live totals.
Check it: cross-check one stop and the total distance in a maps app — detours should be real places on a plausible route.
6. The recipe that scales itself
Give me a pumpkin pancake recipe as an interactive card: a stepper to change the number of servings, a shopping list that updates automatically, and a timed step-by-step cooking checklist.
What it builds: a recipe card with serving controls, auto-updating shopping list and cooking checklist — close to OpenAI’s own pumpkin-pancake demo.
Check it: double the servings and confirm every quantity doubled; scaling errors are the classic failure.
7. The project timeline with guardrails
Turn this launch plan into an interactive timeline: [paste tasks with dates and dependencies]. Let me drag any task’s start date, and warn me if it overlaps a task that depends on it.
What it builds: an adjustable timeline with dependency warnings.
Check it: move the earliest task and confirm every dependent date shifts with it.
8. The Italian vocabulary quiz
Quiz me on beginner Italian food vocabulary with an interactive flashcard game: one card at a time, four multiple-choice answers, track my score, and explain each wrong answer.
What it builds: a playable quiz with score tracking — OpenAI demoed exactly this for language practice.
Check it: verify three or four translations against a dictionary; a quiz that teaches wrong words is worse than no quiz.
9. The raised garden bed planner
Design a raised garden bed planner: adjustable length, width, and depth, a price comparison for cedar, treated pine, and Douglas fir, and a shopping list with the total cost.
What it builds: a dimension-adjustable planner with material price comparison and shopping list — the DIY demo OpenAI showed off, down to the wood types.
Check it: do the lumber math yourself: board count × board length must cover your dimensions.
OpenAI’s own demo of this feature in action — the garden planner, the Italian quiz, and the pumpkin pancake recipe — is worth a watch:

10. The apartment-hunting scorecard
Build an apartment-hunting scorecard for three listings I paste below. Score each on rent, commute, and space from 1–10, with adjustable weights for each criterion, and rank the totals.
What it builds: a weighted decision scorecard with live ranking.
Check it: the weights add to 100, and the ranking matches the weighted math.
Why every prompt here ends with a check
A generated calculator can be confidently wrong, and OpenAI says so itself. The company is candid that “there’s still work ahead to improve the model’s design judgment and expand what it can create” (via mixed-news, 10 Oct 2026). An interactive answer feels authoritative — sliders, charts, totals — which makes its mistakes harder to spot than a wrong sentence. The rule is simple: verify one case independently before you act on any of these tools, the same verification habit we recommend for all AI-generated content in our guide to checking AI output. If you enjoy copy-paste prompt collections, our Muse AI prompts pack follows the same format.
What Intelligent UI can’t do yet
Two limits to know before you start. First, the Pro reasoning effort level doesn’t support Intelligent UI at all — OpenAI’s release notes say the feature runs from Instant through Extra High reasoning, while “the Pro reasoning option continues to use GPT-6 Astra and doesn’t support Intelligent UI” (via mixed-news, 10 Oct 2026). Note the distinction: a Pro subscription can use Intelligent UI at supported effort levels, but the Pro effort level itself is powered by a different model (aireiter.com, 8 Oct 2026). Second, the model may still answer in plain text when it judges that most useful — you can request a tool, but you can’t force the interactive format every time (TechRepublic, 8 Oct 2026).
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a paid ChatGPT plan to use Intelligent UI?
No. It reached Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise on 7 October 2026, then Free and Go from 8 October (gHacks, 8 Oct 2026). Paid tiers get GPT-6 Sol; Free and Go get GPT-6 Luna.
Why does Intelligent UI disappear when I pick Pro reasoning?
That effort level runs on GPT-6 Astra, which doesn’t support it — the feature works from Instant through Extra High reasoning (OpenAI release notes, via mixed-news, 10 Oct 2026). Switch effort levels to get it back.
Can I make ChatGPT always answer with interactive elements?
No. The model chooses the format per question; there is no toggle. You can explicitly ask it to build a tool, which is what the prompts above do (TechRepublic, 8 Oct 2026).
Are the calculators and tools it builds accurate?
Not guaranteed. OpenAI itself says the model’s design judgment still needs work (via mixed-news, 10 Oct 2026). Treat every generated tool as a draft and verify one case independently.
Does Intelligent UI work on the ChatGPT mobile app?
Yes. OpenAI’s official demo reel (12 Oct 2026) shows it running on mobile and desktop, including the garden-bed planner and the Italian vocabulary quiz.
