It was first announced in 2018, but it was not made available to the public then because OpenAI wanted to avoid misuse of their model. GPT uses transformer architecture, which allows OpenAI to use deep learning techniques to generate human-like text. OpenAI developed ChatGPT and is primarily known for its capabilities to generate responses in natural language. It can also continue a conversation based on previous dialogue, and if it makes a mistake, it even apologizes.
This tool has been well-appreciated by users because it helps them understand new things easily and makes repetitive tasks better. You may not believe it, but GPT has yet to be used to its full potential, especially in ChatGPT inference. The company restricts access because OpenAI does not know the risks associated with it.
What is Chat GPT Open AI?
Chat Generative Pre-Trained Transformer, or ChatGPT, is a research preview launched on November 30, 2022. After the launch, it became one of the fastest-growing software applications, with over 100 million users by January 2023 and a valuation of $29 billion. However, some countries have restricted the use of ChatGPT, such as China, Iran, North Korea, and Russia.
It is trained to generate text based on a user’s prompt and is available for everyone for free. OpenAI, the developer of the GPT model, uses vast amounts of data to make it more like natural language, and you have the right to sell the output generated by OpenAI ChatGPT. The AGI model is built on Instruct GPT to allow ChatGPT to follow the user’s prompt and generate responses in human-like conversation output. It can also help users debug computer programs, translate and summarize text, play games like tic-tac-toe, and more.
How to Access ChatGPT?
It is quite straightforward. Follow the instructions below to get started with ChatGPT.
- Visit the ChatGPT Page, log in with your account or create an account by clicking Sign-up.
- It is free. All you need to do is verify your email and phone number.
- Once you open the ChatGPT interface on your browser, you will see a text box at the bottom of the screen.
- On the left, you will see the chat history.
- Now, enter a prompt in the text box, and it will start generating content based on your prompt.
You can use ChatGPT to compose essays, summarize, teach me like a kid, explain, provide facts about specific topics, create apps, debug or write code, build resumes, write Excel formulas, and much more.
Limitations of ChatGPT
OpenAI trained their GPT model using Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLHF) on Azure AI Supercomputer infrastructure. This could be better and has some limitations. For example, it generates plausible-sounding output, which may be inaccurate, untruthful, and misleading. All the prompts you submit are collected and used to train the AI model to improve the GPT model. The company has also implemented a moderation endpoint to reduce misuse and to reduce conversational responses.
OpenAI is also working on generating metadata (the digital watermark) for its generated content to avoid conflict between AI-generated content and original content. For this, they have announced an AI classifier for indicating AI-written text to check and find AI-written content. This will help us understand what is AI-generated content and what is not. The company has also announced its newer model, GPT-4, which is more accurate than its predecessor and adds new capabilities and functionality.
ChatGPT 4
Currently, most of the platform and ChatGPT Free version run on the GPT 3.5 Model. OpenAI has announced the 4th generation of GPT, which is more advanced than its predecessor. However, it is not free and only available to subscribers.
How ChatGPT Works
It is quite identical to how AI works. It is trained on massive data, in this case, web-text data, but there could be more than OpenAI still needs to disclose. Unlike Google Bard and Microsoft BingChat, it does not have access to the Internet and can only respond to existing datasets, but there are plugins you can use to get a response via the Internet.
It will have a major impact, as businesses can use the API to integrate it into their system, which means they can use these models to improve their products and services.
ChatGPT Plus
The free version may seem quite slow, and to get a faster and better experience, like plugin support, you can use the OpenAI ChatGPT Plus, which costs $20 a month. The subscription model is still in beta but has less downtime, gives priority access during peak hours, and gets access to new features.
Download ChatGPT
After the web-based ChatGPT, the company launched its app for iOS devices with Chat History syncing support and voice input (using OpenAI’s Whisper model for speech recognition). The company is committed to launching an Android app later this year.
Powered by OpenAI ChatGPT-Model
Several companies have started leveraging the OpenAI ChatGPT Model in their apps. For example, Snapchat made “MY AI” available to Snapchat Plus subscribers, Grammarly launched GrammarlyGO, Opera launched Aria, and many other companies have been using the OpenAI ChatGPT API, which costs $0.002 per 1000 tokens (translates to ~750 words).
