The “Goodbye Meta AI” post circulating on social media, which claims that users can prevent Meta from using their photos and data by copying and pasting a message, is false. There is no new Facebook rule that allows the company to do whatever it wants with users’ photos, and simply posting a message on your page would not override Meta’s existing terms of service and privacy policy.
Meta is, however, utilizing publicly available photos and posts from its users on Facebook and Instagram to enhance its artificial intelligence systems. While users in Europe are permitted to opt out of this extensive content collection, Australian users do not currently have this choice. Meta’s director of policy has confirmed that only posts made public by users aged 18 and older are being utilized, and users can adjust their settings to private now to prevent future scraping, although this does not address the data already collected.

- Choose how long you want to mute AI, or select the “until I change it” option to mute it indefinitely.
