Muse for Small Business is Meta’s attempt to turn its personal AI agent into an operations helper for owners who live inside Shopify, QuickBooks, Stripe and Meta ads. Announced on 29 September 2026, it drafts campaigns, reviews sales and flags expenses across the tools you already use — while keeping you as the approver. This guide shows how to set it up safely, in what order to connect apps, and how to test whether it actually saves time before you trust it with money data.
What is Muse for Small Business?
Muse for Small Business is a business layer inside Meta’s Muse agent, not a separate app. Meta announced it on 29 September 2026, building on the consumer Muse launch of 8 September 2026, according to TechTarget (1 October 2026) and Reuters reporting carried by ET CIO (30 September 2026). You give Muse a goal — finding new customers, or tightening monthly reporting — and it plans multi-step work across connected accounts. It is available in the US and Canada on iOS, Android and muse.ai, per launch coverage summarised by AI Agents Library (verified 30 September 2026). Outside the US and Canada, treat this as a prepare-now guide.
For scale, TechTarget reported a Sensor Tower estimate of 5 million North America downloads in three weeks — an analyst estimate, not a Meta-audited total, and not proof of business retention.
What can it connect to on day one?
Meta named 15 third-party connectors plus its own business accounts. The list is Asana, Box, Canva, Dropbox, Figma, Granola, HighLevel, Intuit QuickBooks, Klaviyo, Lovable, Notion, Shopify, Slack, Stripe and Zoom, alongside Facebook Pages, Instagram professional analytics and Meta ad accounts (Meta, 29 September 2026, via TechTarget and ET CIO). AI Agents Library also notes Zapier announced itself as a connector the same day. Check the list inside your account before assuming any app is live for you.
Our original contribution is a risk-tier reading of that list. Do not connect all 15 at once:
| Tier | Connectors | Why this order |
|---|---|---|
| Tier 1 — context first | Facebook Pages, Instagram professional, Meta ad accounts, Canva, Notion | Brand and performance context. A bad draft is embarrassing, not expensive. |
| Tier 2 — operations next | Shopify, Slack, Asana, Klaviyo, Zoom, Box, Dropbox, Figma, Granola, HighLevel, Lovable | Sales, team and customer context for reporting and planning. |
| Tier 3 — money last | Intuit QuickBooks, Stripe | Your books and payments. Connect only after a math check passes. |
Meta’s safeguard, quoted briefly, is: “nothing publishes, sends, or spends without your approval” (Meta, 29 September 2026). Keep approvals on for every tier. For deeper permission discipline, see our AI Agent Permissions Guide.
How much does it cost?
Meta says Muse is free for most uses, with subscription plans for heavier use — but it did not publish business subscription prices in the 29 September announcement. Budget against that statement only. Exact tier figures in some secondary roundups were not in the business announcement, so treat them as unconfirmed until you see them on your own plan page. Practical move: run month one as a free-tier trial against a time baseline, and pay only if you hit a limit doing verified work.
How to set up Muse for Small Business safely
Use a 2-2-1 ladder: two context connectors, two test jobs, one money connector last. This sequence is desk-validated, not hands-on tested on a live store — we state that plainly. It follows Meta’s approval model and the governance advice analysts gave TechTarget: set clear boundaries on data, tools and decisions first, with least-privilege access and human approval for sensitive actions (Gartner analyst Wayne Hankins, via TechTarget, 1 October 2026).
- Write your baseline (10 minutes). Note last month’s revenue, ad spend, and hours spent on reporting, drafting posts and chasing invoices. Re-check after 30 days. Without a baseline, “feels faster” is not a result.
- Connect Tier 1 only. Add Facebook Page, Instagram professional and Meta ad account, plus Canva or Notion. Read each permission screen; skip any access you cannot explain.
- Give it one drafting job. Try this: “Using last month’s Instagram and Facebook performance, draft three post ideas for next week. Do not publish anything. Show me which past posts each idea is based on.” Read it aloud. If it does not sound like you, fix brand context first.
- Add Shopify and run the math check. Ask: “What was last month’s revenue, and which three products drove it?” Compare line by line with your Shopify reports. If totals do not match, stop — an agent that cannot reconcile last month has not earned your books.
- Run one operations job end to end. A weekly sales-and-ads summary, or an email triage list. Our AI automation services guide uses the same verify-then-expand pattern.
- Connect QuickBooks last, one money app at a time. Try this: “Review this month’s QuickBooks expenses. Flag anything unusual, show the transaction behind each flag, and rank by amount. Do not edit any record.” Add Stripe only if you still need payment-level answers.
- Write your approval matrix. Muse may draft anything; it may never publish, send, spend or share without you. Note who approves ad spend, customer messages and finance changes — before you are busy, not during.
Good to know: if your account’s permission screen differs from any article, trust your screen.
Three first jobs that can actually save time
Pick jobs that are recurring, checkable and reversible.
1. A growth plan from your own numbers
Try this: “Analyse the last three months of Shopify sales, Meta ad performance and Instagram activity. Build a one-page growth plan for next month: what to promote, what to stop, and the evidence for each call. Do not create or publish any campaign.” Reject any recommendation that cannot show its evidence.
2. An expense flag list you can audit
Try this: “Review this month’s QuickBooks expenses. Flag anything unusual for my business, show transaction details, and rank flags by amount. Do not edit or categorise any record.” The read-only wording is deliberate: review first, edits never by default.
3. A campaign draft based on your winners
Try this: “Look at my best-performing Meta ads from the last 60 days. Draft one new campaign in the same voice and offer, using Canva assets I approve. Leave it paused and show me the full draft, audience and budget.” Keep drafts paused until you have read every field. Once a workflow is proven internally, it can become a service — the pattern in our AI video editing money guide.
What are the risks before you connect your books?
The risk is not a bad draft; it is an agent acting on wrong context at machine speed. Analysts told TechTarget that agent security is a governance challenge — boundaries, least privilege and runtime authorisation. TechTarget also reported consumer Muse faced scrutiny after The Guardian reported a Marketplace incident involving a seller’s home address; Meta said it was investigating. That reported consumer incident is why money and customer data go last. Finally, Omdia’s Mark Beccue told TechTarget Muse may fit consumer-facing retailers inside Meta’s ecosystem best.
Should your business try it now?
Try it now if you sell to consumers, live on Meta surfaces, and can spare two hours to baseline and test. Wait if you need published business pricing first, operate outside the US and Canada, or your books are too messy to math-check against. Our verdict: this is Meta’s most credible owner-agent pitch because it starts from your storefront, books and ad account — but the ladder, math check and 30-day baseline should decide whether it stays.
Frequently asked questions
Is Muse for Small Business free?
Meta says Muse is free for most uses, with subscription plans for more (29 September 2026, via Reuters/ET CIO). Meta did not publish business subscription prices in that announcement; check your own plan page before budgeting an exact figure.
Which apps does it connect to?
Asana, Box, Canva, Dropbox, Figma, Granola, HighLevel, Intuit QuickBooks, Klaviyo, Lovable, Notion, Shopify, Slack, Stripe and Zoom, plus Facebook Pages, Instagram professional analytics and Meta ad accounts. Check Settings in your account for today’s live list.
Can Muse publish or spend without me?
Meta’s stated rule is that nothing publishes, sends or spends without your approval. Keep approvals on, leave campaign drafts paused, and widen permissions slowly — especially for QuickBooks and Stripe.
Is it available in my country?
Launch coverage places Muse in the US and Canada on iOS, Android and muse.ai. Meta did not announce new countries on 29 September. Elsewhere, prepare your baseline and connector order now, and set up when it arrives.
